Been thinking

Been thinking what I want to do with this blog. Thought I might take up an old project of mine again regarding the history of the high rise flats where I've lived most of my life, and which I'm very fond of despite neglect over the years by both Council and Housing Trust.
I moved into the flats in late summer 1963 with my Dad when he obtained a job as Caretaker in
Delph House, this is still the block I live in now. My Dad was a widower and so the job was suitable so he could be around for me when I came home from school on an evening, and also we could move out of my maternal grandmothers house and into a place of our own.
The flats were considered the height of council house
provision in those days. They were clean, having no coal fires, and warm with under floor central heating. They also came fitted with an electric cooker and an airing cabinet for drying your washing in the kitchen. They were the last of the tower blocks to be built in the town and there have never been any others since as they soon went out of favour as a way of housing people.
I like living here for several reasons still, and one reason is the situation. We are halfway up a hillside and the views from my flat on the sixth floor are on occasion quite stunning. Today I'm going to post a few of my many photographs of the view from my kitchen window, which looks out over the town at a place called Riddlesden, and a wood called Parkwood, which provides the people of the area with a place to enjoy a bit of nature.

Still finding things out

So this is my second day of blogdom and I 'm still finding my way about the place keep getting lost on the way, still managed to upload a picture today of my presentation at Lancaster Uni on 24th Sept . It was a great but very wet day, my daughter came up to be with me and my partner for the day and it was lovely to meet Chris Bonington, (a Sir, but I don't believe in acknowledging titles, we're all equal in my eyes.)
Can't say I've done much writing since then, done a lot of research, er, reading though.
Had a trip to London recently after a visit to my daughter in Reigate. Visited the National Army Museum to see the Waterloo model, and Apsley house, Arthur Wellesley's old place, and very nice it was too, not OTT like a lot of these posh houses, full of lots of fantastic paintings, a bit like our house being full of books. This of course was all in the nature of research, my son and daughter know what I'm like on my visits to museums and decline to come with me as I read and look at absolutely everything so I take hours. I managed to get to both places though and see them in a day as well as negotiate the underground so I didn't linger too long.
My research is on the Napoleonic wars as this is what my book will be about, though I'm still in the process of defining my characters and trying to get a storyline together, my research is on the battles and the attitudes of the time, which my main character is definately challenging.
So that's all for now, might think of some more during the day as stuck at home with a man putting a bath in...that's a story in itself.
