Been thinking

Been thinking what I want to do with this blog. Thought I might take up an old project of mine again regarding the history of the high rise flats where I've lived most of my life, and which I'm very fond of despite neglect over the years by both Council and Housing Trust.
I moved into the flats in late summer 1963 with my Dad when he obtained a job as Caretaker in Delph House, this is still the block I live in now. My Dad was a widower and so the job was suitable so he could be around for me when I came home from school on an evening, and also we could move out of my maternal grandmothers house and into a place of our own.
The flats were considered the height of council house provision in those days. They were clean,having no coal fires, and warm with under floor central heating. They also came fitted with an electric cooker and an airing cabinet for drying your washing in the kitchen. They were the last of the tower blocks to be built in the town and there have never been any others since as they soon went out of favour as a way of housing people.
I like living here for several reasons still, and one reason is the situation. We are halfway up a hillside and the views from my flat on the sixth floor are on occasion quite stunning. Today I'm going to post a few of my many photographs of the view from my kitchen window, which looks out over the town at a place called Riddlesden, and a wood called Parkwood, which provides the people of the area with a place to enjoy a bit of nature.
